Prugne della California is Online

Prugne della California is the new blog of our friends Nicolò Minerbi.

In the description of his blog (he calls "ingredients") he says:

"Ci ho pensato su.
E no, le foto pubblicate sui giornali non bastavano proprio.
O gli articoli scritti qua e là.

Il fatto è che sono circondato da troppa America da raccontare.
E mi devo allargare. E così ho pensato al blog.
Questo qua,
Prugne della California.

Un posto che è una cassetta di primizie del Far West.
Una finestra sul cortile del quotidiano statunistense.

Visto con gli occhi di un fotoreporter italiano.

I miei"

"I thought about it.

And no, pictures published in newspaper were just not enough.

Nor the articles written here and there.

The fact is that I'm surrounded by too much America, not to tell you about it.
And I have to expand. And so I thought about a blog.

This one,
Prugne della California.

A place that is a crate of premium fruits from the Far West.

A window on the countryard of on ordinary U.S.

Seen through the eyes of an Italian photoreporter.

Mine."

Luciano's Bluevirgin Story

Pictures by_Luciano Fratianni

Luciano Fratianni was going to buy a pair of Bluevirgin, then the night of April 6th 2009 his home was destroyed in the earthquake that hit L'Aquila. Some time later he wrote to ONVIS for information about the jeans shipping (the mail was not delivered to L'Aquila).

So was born the story of this Bluevirgin, Luciano's Bluevirgin.

In eleven months this denim has traveled: Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Verona, Pescara, Rome and then in Naples, Potenza, Salerno and Reggio Calabria and many other places, but this jeans have lived in L'Aquila. Lived in L'Aquila and lived L'Aquila, the city of the earthquake but also (we hope all) the city of reconstruction and rebirth.

POLAROID - the impossible project

Polaroid is transforming itself from an analog Instant Film Production Company to a global Consumer Electronics and Digital Imaging company.

Production of analog Instant Film stopped in June 2008, closing the factories in Mexico (Instant Packfilm production) and the Netherlands (Instant Integral production).

Impossible b.v. has been founded with the concrete aim to re-invent and re-start production of analog INTEGRAL FILM for vintage Polaroid cameras.

Therefore Impossible b.v. has acquired the complete film production equipment in Enschede (NL) from Polaroid, has signed a 10-year lease agreement on the factory building; and has engaged the most experienced team of Integral Film experts worldwide.

The Impossible mission is NOT to re-build Polaroid Integral film but (with the help of strategic partners) to develop a new product with new characteristics, consisting of new optimised components, produced with a streamlined modern setup. An innovative and fresh analog material, sold under a new brand name that perfectly will match the global re-positioning of Integral Film

UP TO YOU - a GINOTONICO'S project - a TRUESTORY

GINOTONICO is an ONVIS TRUESTORY.

We introduce you his last project: UP TO YOU

UP TO YOU is a new italian digital label that helps emerging musicians, singers, songwriters and bands with original music to sell their songs on the web and mobile services.

The big advantage for the emerging ones is to have the same presence in digital channels of established and famous names, worldwide.

The subscription is very affordable and does not limit the musician to sign any other forms of record deal or contract with other labels.
UP TO YOU allows musicians to receive a big percentage on the sales of their songs.

The project was born from italian dj and producer Gino Pillon alias "ginotonico" and american digital expert Scott Cohen, founder of "The Orchard".

Interview with the founder of UP TO YOU GINOTONICO

O: What does music represent in your life?

G: In the very beginning it started from a strong desire to escape from reality. Later, it grown as a need of expression combined with research into musicians' heritage and self - introspection.

O. Choose 3 CDs that have been important for your musical growth and explain why.

G: Difficult one, there are pretty more than 3 albums and many more songs.
Let's say 5 albums:
Rocky I - Soundtrack (because it's very exciting in a human way) Public Enemy - It takes a nation of millions to hold us back (for the power it has and the innovation that brought in music and message) Deftones - Adrenaline (because it sounds strong, genuine and never obvious) Massive Attack - Mezzanine (because it made me experience a subtle world of sensations and images that I didn't know before) Stevie Wonder - Songs in the key of life (because it has any kind of emotions, it's very powerful in a spiritual way and it's able to delete my bad feelings)

O: What represent music in your life?

G: The fuel of life, it gives me energy.

O: Your hobbies …

G: Travelling, vespa trips, reading, making crossvords, sometimes taking amatorial pictures and video.

O: We know you are a DJ named GINOTONICO. Tell us about the music you like and in which kind of location you like to performe.

G: Usually I like to dj set with a peculiar theme or genre which is hiden from the mainstream or which is unknown in the local scene. I can go on a few years exploring that world by myself and sharing what I discover with the listeners. that's what I did with "Funkorama Dj Set" lately. But for next dj set, I'd like it to change genre each song and mix any kind of things that comes across my mind. Find paradoxes and associations but still creating an unique flow, obviously using turntables.

O: When did you start djing?

G: In 1990

O: A book you love …

G: Enjoyed "Uno, nessuno, centomila" by Pirandello.

O: A movie that you feel like watching again … and again ..

G: "Duel" by Steven Spielberg. But I don't know why.

O: A country in which you lived or where you spent some time that is close to your personality, and why.

G: I've been feeling London the first time I visited it, and then I lived there and felt it for a few years (1999-2002). It was very stimulating to share and compare my passion with other people from all over the world. And in music, there was a fantastic Drum&Bass vibe those years. later I spent a few days in Barcellona more than once, and felt it strongly because it looked like and "updated italian city". I would like to live there because it looks alive but chilled in the same time. But besides that, I feel almost any seaside places I visit in any season, so I would just love to live nearby the sea in the future.

O: 4 videos that represent you:

Arckiv - eyewear culture

If you are bored of the same rectangular shaped frames which have dominated eyewear shop windows in the past five years and if you are after a more personal look, a style you feel is your own, Arckiv is the place you are looking for.

It's not easy to find in the jungle of the Camden's Stables Market, but, once you are there, it's hard to walk out bare handed. It took me an hour and a half to choose thirty pairs of glasses and a further painful selection process to narrow it down to two pieces which I eventually bought.

Rather than a shop it's an emporium.

Walking in, the first thing that catches the eyes is the quantity of glasses in display, hundreds of frames on shelves and glass drawers, with models that range from the 1940 to 1989. Collectors and antique lovers can find glasses dated back to the 1800.

Arckiv sources, provides and hires eye wear as props to well-known opera theatres including the Royal Opera House, London's English National Opera and the Gran Teatre de Liceu in Barcelona. Movie lovers will be interested to know that the spectacles worn by Johnny Depp in “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” were a prototype which Fraser Laing, founder of Arckiv, designed for Tim Burton, as well as the 1970s styled glasses featured in Steven Spielberg's Munich.

“Five years ago I bought up archives, prototypes and catalogues from eyewear factories which had been closed down when production was moved to China. I have no idea how many I have, I sell some, I collect others as I am deeply interested in the culture of glasses and the history and knowledge they bear” Fraser explains.

The most wanted model? “The NHS 524, the National Health Service glasses. This model dates back in the 1950 and it was produced until 1990. The design is incredible, looks good and people still wear it today.”

In London the passion for this accessory has become so extreme that in fashionable areas is not unusual to see people wearing vintage frames with no lenses: spectacles, just like handbags, have become the ultimate true bulwark of the freedom of expression.

ARMINIO - A TRUESTORY

Monfumo is a tiny village located on Asolo Hills, in Veneto, Italy.

ONVIS jeans and its life stories were born there.

The very first ONVIS jeans tells us about a guy called Arminio who was a worker in the 'Piumaella' mine.

It was 1940 when Dario Callegari, owner of a spinning factory, employed a few dozen of workers to draw brown coal from the underground.

Arminio was one of these young workers, only 24 years old with 3 sons already.

Being both strong and clever Mr. Callegari decided to promote him to the head of the 'Colpien' site, which later then had been extended to the Piumaella mine.

The mine entrance was located under a creek bed, hence the risk of flooding was quite high. In fact the gallery often got filled with water but the use of pumps normally avoided any further damages.

This was until 1948 when unfortunately, at the end of January, the water suddenly broke the dikes and overflew the galleries.

The site's entrance bursted and Arminio and his colleagues got blocked inside. While the water was rising and the light was fading out, the boys slowely lost any hope of surviving. However as Arminio knew those galleries perfectly, he managed to lead his mates towards the burners that opened up close to the 'Valle delle Fate' ('Fairys' Valley') and all of them escaped savely.
